CEI Enhances Online Shopping System for News Organization

This client is a private, non-profit organization that provides leadership in national newsgathering and production through a nationwide interconnection of non-commercial stations. They serve a growing audience of more than 15 million Americans and a worldwide audience each week via public radio stations, the Internet and cable. The client wanted to redesign their online shop in time for the 2002 Christmas season.
CEI was commissioned as this client's sole solution partner to enhance their Internet presence through their online shop. The CEI solution included the implementation of a new shop design and shopping cart process using the client's current version of ATG. The scope of site enhancements included the implementation of a search engine and the following pages:

- Subcategory Page
- Product Page
- Boutique Page
- Gift Set Page
- Help Page
- Privacy Policy
- Security Guarantee
- Search Results Page
- Cart Pages (sign in, create account, purchase information, order verification, order confirmation)
Additional enhancements included creation of consistency across gift sets such that new gifts showed associated products, implementation of "breadcrumbs" navigation to reveal the hierarchy of the site to the user and optional sorting capabilities. To ensure that the site was defect-free, the client and CEI conducted a 2-week test prior to release. CEI provided detailed documentation including design specifications, documented source code and documentation describing the ATG components used in the solution.
This project is still underway. The client's online shop is scheduled to be completed on time and under budget. Following some ongoing testing, they will have an enhanced commerce site in production prior to the Christmas season. At the conclusion of this project, CEI will conduct knowledge transfer of the technical and functional changes relating to the code elements. In addition, to kick-off the new site design, CEI will execute an email campaign to all existing customers who have opted for shop notices.
